I’ve been diving and photographing Truk Lagoon’s legendary WWII fleet since 2003 and captain of the M/V Odyssey—the gold standard in luxury liveaboards- since 2008. I'll be stepping out of the wheelhouse for this trip to dedicate 100% of my energy and local expertise to your expedition. I hope to see you in Truk.

The M/V Odyssey

Since 1999, the Odyssey and her highly experienced crew have been taking avid divers in the lap of luxury to dive the wrecks of Truk Lagoon. The 133' vessel is tricked out to meet the most discerning divers needs. The luxury spacious staterooms with individual climate control will provide the perfect place to rest between dives. The delicious food served in the large dining room will not disappoint. Odyssey is a perfectly designed dive platform with everything the recreational and technical diver needs. Individual dive lockers, outdoor shower, rinse tanks and extra large camera table are but a few of the amenities on deck.  In addition, get truly spoiled with a diver lift that raises you from the water to the swim deck. No climbing! Excellent for divers with heavy gear or physical issues where climbing ladders is difficult. There are no details overlooked on the Odyssey.

Rec Week Features

Dive the wrecks that made Truk famous. The Fujikawa, Shinkoku, Nippo and Hoki Maru to name a few. Depths range from 90’ max to 140’ with a singular dive to the San Francisco Maru at 170’. Technical diving is welcome on this week but recreational divers will not be disappointed. There is much to explore for all skill sets.

Operation Hailstone

On February 17 and 18, 1944, U.S. Naval forces executed Operation Hailstone, launching one of the most daring carrier-based air strikes in history against the Japanese stronghold of Truk Lagoon. When the smoke cleared, over forty Japanese vessels rested at the bottom of the lagoon, cementing Micronesia as the ultimate wreck diving destination on Earth. To dive Truk once is merely to scratch the surface of the history resting below.

Getting There

United Airlines is the only airline operating to Chuuk from either Hawaii or Guam. The two common routes are from Narita, Japan to Guam to Chuuk or Hawaii to Guam to Chuuk. Evolution Dive Travel can assist you with your airline bookings at no additional fee.

Trip Insurance:

We strongly recommend every passenger purchase comprehensive accident, medical, baggage and trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Dive Accident Insurance:

We strongly recommend every passenger carry diving accident insurance such as Divers Alert Network (DAN). No Dive Insurance is included in this package.

• Embark Odyssey on Saturday’s at 5pm

• Dive Sunday thru Saturday; (1/2 day diving on Sat.)

• Disembark Odyssey on Saturdays at 8am

• Early arrivals are encouraged to rest, hydrate and prepare for heavy diving.
