I’m thrilled to announce that Socorro, is back on the Evolution Dive Travel schedule for 2029—this time aboard the Nautilus Explorer! I’ve reserved half the vessel (12 spots), with the remaining half chartered by friend and fellow photo pro Richard Barnden guiding his group. Having dived Socorro twice before, I can confidently say its big animal encounters are second to none. Magdalena bay - Optional add-on

Located on the Pacific coast of Mexico's Baja California Sur, offers world-class pelagic snorkeling and freediving rather than traditional scuba diving. From October through January, the area plays host to a massive sardine run that attracts striped marlin, sea lions, mobula rays and whales in a high-speed feeding frenzy.

Magdalena bay - prerequisites

You need have strong swimming skills to keep up with fast-moving bait balls, climb repeatedly onto small pangas, and handle open-ocean currents. Contact Mike to see if this trip is for you.

Socorro

Socorro is actually only one of the islands of the Revillagigedo Islands that lie 250 miles SW of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They have been compared to the Galapagos in Ecuador or Cocos Island in Costa Rica because of the big animal encounters they provide, such as giant mantas, humpback whales, playful dolphins, tuna, pelagics and 7 shark species. All of this action yields some of the best big animal diving on earth! On occasion orcas, false killer whales, bait balls and plenty of other surprises can be seen. The shear level of biomass is impressive and the photo subjects cooperative and abundant.

The Nautilus Explorer

Getting There

Fly to Cabo San Lucas (SJD) via United, Delta, Alaska, American, Aeromexico, West Jet and Air Canada. Transfer from SJD to the Nautilus one day prior to departure. Contact Mike for assistance with portion of your travel plans.
